The Director of Climate Change, Prof. Halil Hasar, attended the Pre-COP30 meetings, which kicked off in Brazil’s capital, Brasília.

The meetings, which aim to strengthen global cooperation in tackling climate change, are attended by ministers and deputy ministers from more than 50 countries.

Within the framework of the COP30 preparatory talks (Pre-COP30), Prof. Halil Hasar participated in the session titled Implementing the Global Stocktake: Energy Transitions and shared Türkiye’s views on the issue.

In his remarks, Prof. Hasar underscored that the energy transition is of critical importance for Türkiye, highlighting the role of energy security and technological development capacity in the shift to clean energy, the integration of renewable energy into existing infrastructure, the central importance of finance in achieving Net Zero targets, and the strategic steps Türkiye has been taking in the field of energy diversification, including hydrogen and other technologies.

The session also addressed the implementation of the Global Stocktake decisions adopted at COP28, the COP30 Presidency’s roadmap for sustainable fuels, and the IRENA report.

Pre-COP meetings are convened ahead of COP30, scheduled for November, to facilitate preliminary negotiations among countries and to build common ground on key climate-related issues.

While these meetings do not form part of the official UNFCCC calendar, they play a critical role in shaping both the direction and the tone of the negotiations.
