The launch event for the "National Cooling Action Plan of Türkiye," developed in collaboration between the Directorate of Climate Change and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was held in Ankara. Bringing together representatives from public institutions, international organizations, the private sector, and academia, the event addressed Türkiye's policy framework for transitioning to sustainable cooling, projected cooling demand and emission scenarios through 2050, and priority steps for implementing the Action Plan.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Director of Climate Change Mehrali Ecer emphasized the impact of growing cooling demands on energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, underscoring the role of energy-efficient, sustainable cooling solutions in achieving Türkiye's climate targets. The program featured a presentation detailing the policy framework, legislative developments, and priority steps driving Türkiye's sustainable cooling transformation, while sharing the Action Plan's preparation process, key objectives, and strategic roadmap with attendees.
The event also presented key analytical findings on Türkiye's cooling demand, equipment stock, energy consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions up to 2050. Discussions focused on the contributions of energy efficiency measures, sustainable cooling technologies, and low-GWP (global warming potential) refrigerants toward reducing emissions. Following addresses by Guidehouse Director Andreas Hermelink and UNDP Türkiye Resident Representative Louisa Vinton, the program featured a panel discussion titled "From Plan to Action: Implementing Türkiye's National Cooling Action Plan," moderated by Volkan Polat, Head of the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Monitoring Department at the Directorate of Climate Change.
The Program concluded with a wrap up and evaluation session.
