Murat Kurum

MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENT, URBANIZATION AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Minister KURUM was born in Ankara in 1976.

He completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara. In 1999, he graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Selçuk University in Konya. He completed his master’s degree in Urban Transformation in 2017.

Between 1999 and 2005, he worked at various private-sector organizations. From 2005 to 2006, he served as a Specialist at the TOKİ (Housing Development Administration of the Republic of Türkiye) Ankara Implementation Department; from 2006 to 2009, as European Side Implementation Branch Manager at the TOKİ Istanbul Implementation Department; and from 2009 to 2018, as General Director and Member of the Board of Directors of Emlak Konut REIC, a subsidiary of TOKİ.

After serving as Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change from 2018 to 2023, Mr. KURUM was elected as an AK Party Member of Parliament for Istanbul in the 28th legislative term and served as Chair of the Environment Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.

Murat KURUM was reappointed as Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change on 2 July 2024.

He is married, has 3 children and is proficient in English.
