The fifth meeting of the Carbon Pricing Working Group, established under the Türkiye–EU High-Level Dialogue on Climate to strengthen cooperation in combating climate change, was held in Brussels.
At the meeting, which was attended by a delegation from the Climate Change Directorate, the work carried out by Türkiye on its Emissions Trading System and the overall structure of the system were shared with the participants.
In particular, within the framework of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), participants exchanged views on the effective carbon price to be applied under Türkiye’s Emissions Trading System.
As part of the High-Level Climate Dialogue’s sub-working group agenda, participants also reviewed revisions to the EU Emissions Trading System, the current state of play of the EU Innovation Fund, and recent international developments, including the International Maritime Organization’s Net Zero Framework and Brazil’s Carbon Markets Open Coalition.
The meeting assessed the progress achieved and outputs delivered to date under the Working Group, with both sides agreeing to further deepen technical-level climate dialogue and expand areas of cooperation between Türkiye and the EU.
Officials from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA), responsible for diplomacy, carbon markets, the Innovation Fund, and maritime affairs, took part in the meeting.
Representatives from the Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union (DG TAXUD) also contributed to discussions related to CBAM.
The Turkish delegation comprised representatives from the Directorate of Climate Change, the Ministry of Trade, the Directorate for EU Affairs, and the Permanent Delegation of Türkiye to the EU.
