President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made statements on Türkiye’s first Climate Law, which entered into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette, during a Parliamentary Group Meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
Emphasizing that the Climate Law is entirely domestic and national in character, President Erdoğan said, “Let every member of our nation rest assured: the Climate Law is a fully domestic and national piece of legislation.”
Noting that claims suggesting that agriculture would be banned, farmers would not be allowed to plant what they wish, and the public would be forced to consume artificial meat are baseless, President Erdoğan stated that discrediting the law with such claims reflects a profound lack of judgment.
Saying, “Those who spread the slander that global powers will seize our agricultural lands through the Paris Climate Agreement are acting—consciously or unconsciously—as instruments of a covert operation against our nation and our state,” President Erdoğan made the following remarks:
“We have clarified the duties and responsibilities of our Climate Change Directorate.”
We signed the Paris Climate Agreement in 2021. Our Climate Law, which constitutes its continuation and implementation, was adopted by our Parliament and took effect following its publication in the Official Gazette. With the Climate Law, we will mitigate the losses and damages caused by disasters. We will reduce greenhouse gas emissions through our action plans prepared in line with our nationally determined contribution. We will reduce greenhouse gas emissions through our action plans prepared in line with our nationally determined contribution. At the same time, the Climate Law has placed our sectors’ cleaner and more efficient production processes under legal safeguard. We have clarified the duties and responsibilities of our Climate Change Directorate.
“Let every member of our nation rest assured: the Climate Law is a fully domestic and national piece of legislation.”
Let every member of our nation rest assured: the Climate Law is a fully domestic and national piece of legislation. Its purpose is not to impose a burden on our people, but to leave our children a cleaner environment and a healthier future. And let me remind those who have lost their ability to think rationally due to conspiracy theories that there is no power in the world capable of seizing even an inch of our agricultural lands. When necessary, we would give up everything, even our lives; but, Allah willing, we will never renounce the defense of Türkiye and the Turkish nation.
