The 37th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol, organized by the UNEP Ozone Secretariat, was held in Nairobi. Representatives of 198 parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer convened in Nairobi, Kenya, for the 37th Meeting of the Parties (MOP37), organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Ozone Secretariat. 

During the meeting, negotiations were conducted among the parties on the agenda items. Deputy Director of Climate Change Mehrali Ecer and the accompanying delegation attended the meeting on behalf of Türkiye. At the meeting, where key agenda items were addressed, discussions focused on issues including Regional Atmospheric Monitoring, Illegal Trade in Refrigerants, Halons and Fire Suppression Systems, and HFC-23 emissions. 

In addition, bilateral meetings were held with representatives of the Ozone Secretariat, officials from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and private sector representatives regarding ongoing and planned initiatives carried out by Türkiye.

Speaking at the high-level meeting, Deputy Director of Climate Change Mehrali Ecer referred to Türkiye’s 2053 Net Zero Target and its 2053 Long-Term Climate Strategy, emphasizing that the Climate Law represents a major milestone in achieving Türkiye’s Net Zero Emissions and Green Development goals.

He also highlighted the Second Nationally Determined Contribution prepared in line with Türkiye’s 2030 targets, along with the mitigation and adaptation strategies based on this contribution, and underlined the critical role of the Montreal Protocol within these strategies.

Deputy Director of Climate Change Ecer was accompanied by Head of the Monitoring of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Department Volkan Polat, Climate Change Expert Sezin Sönmez Erbaş, and Environmental Engineer Gökhan Berker Akbıyık.
