President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the Climate Summit in New York on the margins of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Speaking at the Climate Summit held in the UN Trusteeship Council Chamber, President Erdoğan announced Türkiye’s Second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). “Our climate policy is built on seven pillars—energy, industry, buildings, transport, waste, agriculture, and forestry,” said President Erdoğan. “We have designed our Second Nationally Determined Contribution to cover all sectors and all greenhouse gases.”

Beginning his remarks by wishing success to Brazil, which will host the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) in November, President Erdoğan emphasized that Türkiye’s first Climate Law, which has recently entered into force, represents a major step toward the 2053 Net Zero Emissions target.

The key messages from President Erdoğan’s address at the UN Climate Summit are as follows:

“We have designed our Second Nationally Determined Contribution to cover all sectors and all greenhouse gases.”

“Our efforts to establish an Emissions Trading System, implement the Green Finance Strategy, and develop a National Green Taxonomy are ongoing.”

“We have structured our climate policy around seven pillars—energy, industry, buildings, transport, waste, agriculture, and forestry. And we have designed our Second Nationally Determined Contribution to cover all sectors and all greenhouse gases. Through economy-wide policies, we aim to achieve a reduction of 466 million tons in emissions by 2035 and to reduce our emissions to 643 million tons.”

“We are scaling up the use of low-carbon technologies in industry.”

“While increasing the share of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency, we are also scaling up the use of low-carbon technologies in industry.”

As of this year, renewables account for more than 60 percent of total installed capacity. We have been consolidating our infrastructure, particularly for electric vehicle production, and prioritizing investments in rail transport.”

“In line with our 2053 net zero emissions target, we will continue transforming our key sectors.”

“In line with our 2053 for the years net zero emissions target, we will continue transforming our key sectors. To achieve these targets, access to international finance and cooperation in technology are indispensable.”

“The Zero Waste Movement plays a critical role in our climate change mitigation efforts.”

The “Zero Waste Movement,” carried out under the auspices of my wife, Emine Erdoğan, plays a critical role in our fight against climate change. Thanks to our water efficiency mobilization, this initiative has also been elevated to the global level.

“We hope to crown our efforts by hosting the 31st Conference of the Parties in 2026.”
