Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum attended the Third Meeting of the Türkiye–EU High-Level Dialogue on Climate, which was held in Brussels.

At the meeting, the parties reached a common understanding on strengthening joint action and cooperation to address the increasing incidence of forest fires driven by the impacts of climate change.

Following the meeting, Minister Kurum held a bilateral meeting with Belgium’s Minister for Mobility, Climate, and Ecological Transition, Jean-Luc Crucke.

During the discussion, Minister Kurum briefed his counterpart on the reconstruction efforts of the century underway in Türkiye’s earthquake-affected regions.

He noted that 304,000 housing units have been delivered to date and that the remaining 150,000 units are expected to be completed and handed over by the end of the year.

Belgian Minister Crucke expressed his interest in visiting the earthquake zone to observe the efforts on the ground to which Minister Kurum responded that he would be pleased to host him.

Minister Kurum was accompanied during his engagements by Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Fatma Varank, Deputy Minister of Trade Mustafa Tuzcu, Türkiye’s Permanent Representative to the European Union Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, and Director of Climate Change Prof. Halil Hasar.
