The Directorate of Climate Change continues to hold briefing meetings on the Climate Law, which has recently entered into force.
An informative meeting titled “Türkiye’s Climate Law and Its Implications for the Business Community,” organized by the Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce, focused on the Climate Law and on the implications it carries for the business community.
At the meeting, the Directorate of Climate Change was represented by First Legal Counsel Attorney Emel Ünal, Head of Climate Finance and Incentives Department Mürsel Akbulut, and Expert Muhittin Aslan from the Department of Carbon Pricing.
Discussions centered on the role of the business community in climate change mitigation efforts and on the sector-specific impacts of Türkiye’s new Climate Law.
As part of the program, First Legal Counsel Attorney Emel Ünal delivered a presentation outlining the overall framework and legal provisions of the Climate Law, while Expert Aslan briefed participants on the Emissions Trading System and offset mechanisms.
Mürsel Akbulut, in turn, provided an overview of the Green Taxonomy of Türkiye and climate finance practices, which have assumed increased importance following the enactment of the law.
The meeting underscored the essential nature of the private sector’s active engagement in line with Türkiye’s low-carbon development objectives.
Participants exchanged views on the responsibilities and opportunities the Climate Law is expected to create for the business community.
