The 62nd Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), convened under the framework of the Seventh Assessment Cycle, was held in Hangzhou, China.

The session was scheduled to consider and agree on the outlines of the Methodology Report on “IPCC Carbon Dioxide Removal Technologies”, “Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage”, drawing on contributions from the three Working Groups.

The meeting was followed on behalf of Türkiye by Directorate of Climate Change experts Erdoğan Karaca and Merve Güreş, who conveyed Türkiye’s positions and views on the implementation of IPCC processes.

At the conclusion of six days of deliberations, the outline documents incorporating the contributions of Working Group I, Working Group II and Working Group III were formally adopted.

Despite extensive discussions, the outline document of the Methodology Report on “IPCC Carbon Dioxide Removal Technologies”, “Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage” was not adopted.

It was therefore decided that the matter would be reconsidered at the 63rd Session.

In addition to the experts of the Directorate of Climate Change, Şiir Kılkış also participated in the meeting in her capacity as Vice-Chair of Working Group III, representing Türkiye.
