Following the conclusion of COP29, Climate Change Director Prof. Halil Hasar shared his assessment of Türkiye’s draft National Green Taxonomy Regulation on TRT Haber.
Prof. Hasar provided insights into the Draft Legislation on the National Green Taxonomy and Technical Screening Criteria developed by the Directorate. “Through our work on the Green Taxonomy of Türkiye, we aim to support economic activities that align with national and international climate and sustainable development goals while incentivizing capital flows toward sustainable investments,” said Prof. Hasar.
“The Green Transition is Essential Across All Sectors to Achieve Our Net Zero Target”
Prof. Hasar noted that the regulation is designed to remain consistent with global principles and standards—specifically the EU Green Taxonomy—and will serve as a gateway for attracting international funds to Türkiye. “Our goal is for the National Green Taxonomy to serve as a high-integrity tool that builds investor confidence, protects against greenwashing, and assists companies in channeling capital toward the most critical areas,” he added.
In the coming decade, the Green Taxonomy will be a decisive factor in directing climate finance flows toward the USD 1.3 trillion annual investment required by developing nations. The Green Transition is essential across all sectors to achieve our Net Zero Goal. We are advancing our work with this strategic focus.”
Prof. Hasar confirmed that the Draft National Taxonomy Regulation and the Technical Screening Criteria have been circulated to relevant organizations and agencies for consultation. "With the Taxonomy, we aim to support green transition efforts and ensure that the financial resources required for this transformation are channeled into green investments across our country," Prof. Hasar stated.
"The Directorate’s work on the Taxonomy is progressing rapidly; within this framework, we have finalized the Draft Taxonomy Regulation and the Draft Technical Screening Criteria."
