Prof. Halil Hasar, Director of Climate Change, received a delegation from the Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality.

At the meeting, which focused on the steps to be taken at the local level to make cities more resilient in the fight against climate change, strategy plans specific to Erzurum were also discussed. 

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Secretary General of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Murat Altundağ and was attended by Head of the Climate Change and Zero Waste Department Fatih Çarıkçıoğlu and Head of the Environmental Protection Department Ömer Faruk Avcı, with discussions also addressing the protection of wetlands and agricultural lands as a means of strengthening urban climate resilience.

Expressing his satisfaction with the visit, Director Hasar emphasized the importance of local-level action in the fight against climate change, noting that work carried out locally constitutes a critical step in this effort.

Stressing that Erzurum is among the provinces affected by climate change, Hasar exchanged views on sustainable solutions.

Underscoring that climate-resilient cities are indispensable in this struggle, Hasar highlighted that close cooperation between the Directorate of Climate Change and local governments would be highly beneficial for the country.

The delegation briefed Director Hasar on the services and projects being implemented in Erzurum.
