Director of Climate Change Prof. Halil Hasar, President of the Turkiye Environment Agency Nurullah Öztürk, and Governor of Antalya Hulusi Şahin convened to review preparations for the COP31 Summit, which will be hosted by Türkiye in Antalya.

Hosted by the Directorate of Climate Change, the meeting focused on the ongoing preparations for COP31 and climate-friendly projects currently being implemented across Antalya.
During the session, officials conducted a comprehensive review of organizational logistics, as well as technical and physical infrastructure requirements.

Director Hasar emphasized that hosting COP31 here in Türkiye is not merely an organizational task but a pivotal opportunity to present a powerful vision for the global climate action. Outlining the intensive work on the COP31 Action Agenda, Director Hasar noted that their efforts cover key thematic areas including Zero Waste, Oceans and Seas, Food Security, Climate-Resilient Cities, the Climate Action Implementation Mechanism, Youth and Education, Green Industrialization, Clean Energy Transition, and Rio Synergy. Director Hasar expressed Türkiye’s goal of sharing its concrete steps and best practices in climate action with the international community. He remarked that Antalya’s sustainability-oriented preparations are also of critical importance to the summit's success. During the meeting, Governor Şahin provided an update on the technical, physical, and infrastructural preparation work being carried out across the city for COP31. To bolster environmental awareness, Governor Şahin announced that the Antalya Governor’s Office will coordinate an extensive program for World Environment Day on June 5, and extended an invitation to Director Hasar and Mr. Öztürk to attend. Türkiye Environment Agency President Nurullah Öztürk shared technical insights into the Deposit Management System and the Mooring Buoy Project.

With COP31 taking place in Antalya, Türkiye's international role in global climate action is expected to be further strengthened.
