COP31 President-Designate and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in London. Minister Murat Kurum is pressing ahead with his schedule at London Climate Action Week.
On the second day of the events, Minister Kurum and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The meeting focused on briefing the Secretary-General on Türkiye’s COP31 preparations, while also addressing the COP31 Action Agenda, energy security, renewable energy targets, and the circular economy. Taking to his social media account to share an update on the talks, Minister Kurum stated, “Within the framework of our COP31 preparations, we reviewed our Action Agenda and held a comprehensive exchange on our priorities for tackling the climate crisis, ensuring energy security, advancing the circular economy, and bolstering global cooperation. During the meeting, which I attended alongside our Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Mr. Alparslan Bayraktar, we highlighted our ongoing initiatives in clean energy and re-emphasized that a shared political will and international solidarity are absolutely vital to hitting climate targets. I would like to express my gratitude to the Secretary-General for his constructive approach and invaluable contributions.”
Director of Climate Change Prof. Halil Hasar was also present at the meeting.
