Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, officially opened the Türkiye Pavilion as part of the activities for the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change kicked off in Baku. The proceedings are scheduled to continue at the Baku Olympic Stadium and its surrounding temporary venues until November 22. The Turkish delegation, including Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, and Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, attended the inaugural day's events. Minister Kurum and his fellow cabinet members conducted the official opening of the Türkiye Pavilion. Following the ceremony, the three ministers toured the Turkish exhibition stands and observed a traditional water marbling (ebru) art demonstration.

WORLD LEADERS SUMMIT TO CONVENE TOMORROW

The World Leaders Climate Action Summit (WLCAS) is scheduled to take place tomorrow and on November 13, bringing together heads of state and government from approximately 100 nations. With total registrations exceeding 67,000, Türkiye is maintaining high-level representation at COP29 through a delegation led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, featuring cabinet members, public and civil society organizations, technical experts, and academics.

TÜRKİYE’S ZERO WASTE DIPLOMACY

First Lady Emine Erdoğan, accompanying the President on his official visit, will participate in various programs in her capacity as Chairperson of the UN Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste. Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum will accompany the First Lady during these engagements. First Lady Emine Erdoğan is scheduled to meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres tomorrow. Their discussions will center on climate action and environmental issues, specifically focusing on the progress of the Zero Waste Project launched under her auspices. During the meeting, Emine Erdoğan will brief Guterres on the activities of the UN Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste and is also slated to meet with Achim Steiner, the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), at COP29.
