The Directorate of Climate Change marked “Working Journalists’ Day” on January 10 by hosting a ‘Media Day’ that brought together media professionals to promote local climate action and awareness in Türkiye.
At the Media Day, which was organized by the Directorate of Climate Change and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as part of the EU Partnership Project for Local Climate Action in Türkiye, and first held online, participants discussed local climate action in Türkiye and efforts to combat climate change.
During the online meeting, which was attended by a large number of journalists and media professionals, Directorate of Climate Change experts presented and discussed project activities with journalists, including Climate Projections and Vulnerability and Risk Analyses, the definition of the scope of climate change vulnerability and risk assessments, sectoral vulnerability and risk analyses, and the estimation of the economic impacts of climate change.
The Media Day, which focused on the EU Partnership Project for Local Climate Action in Türkiye, also examined in detail the topics “The Role of the Media in Communicating Global and Regional Climate Policies,” “The Role of the Media in Communicating Climate Change Impacts,” “Challenges in Climate Change Reporting,” “Media Representation of Local Climate Action,” and “The Media’s Perspective on Local Governments’ Climate Change Efforts.”
In addition, participants reviewed national and international studies on climate change and held consultations on current issues.
Discussions also addressed climate change–related disinformation on social media platforms and the future of media coverage of climate change following the U.S. elections.
The meeting further examined the state of media coverage on climate change and the environment and featured discussions on climate change reporting.
The meeting underscored the importance of building common ground between the Directorate and media professionals in the fight against climate change, while also extending congratulations to all journalists and media professionals on “January 10th Working Journalists’ Day.”
