Director of Climate Change Prof. Halil Hasar convened with the Let’s Do It Türkiye team and youth climate volunteers, whose work focuses on sustainable environmental consciousness and zero-waste initiatives. Expressing his pleasure regarding the visit, Director Hasar emphasized that young people will take a more active role throughout the COP31 process. Outlining the Directorate’s ambition to transform COP31 into a "COP of Youth" through active engagement, he highlighted that collaboration with young people and civil society remains vital to achieving national climate targets.

Following a briefing from the delegation on their efforts to raise awareness regarding mismanaged waste and environmental challenges, Director Hasar emphasized that integrating youth into decision-making mechanisms represents a critical milestone.  In this context, he noted that the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) serves as a pivotal platform for such engagement.

Director Hasar Hears Out Youth Expectations and Proposals for COP31

With preparations for the Türkiye-hosted COP31 Summit in full swing, Director Hasar underscored the essential role of youth within the global climate action.  He held a consultative session to gather direct expectations and proposals from participants regarding efforts to secure robust youth representation at the summit. The meeting was attended by Let’s Do It Türkiye Country Coordinator Cengiz Kasak, Secretary General Merve Küçükeskil, General Coordinator Ahmet Öztaş, Sustainability Director Dilara Sağlam, Environment and Climate Policies Advisory Board Coordinator Yusuf Dursun Durmuş, and Projects Coordinator Gaye Gizem Kıymaz. The session concluded with Director Hasar joining the youth delegates for a commemorative photo.
