The Director of Climate Change, Prof. Halil Hasar, attended the “Carbon Pricing and Emissions Trading System Panel” held in Ankara.

Delivering the opening address at the panel organized by the Ankara Chamber of Commerce, Director Hasar underscored the need for strong coordination and a single overarching objective in the fight against climate change, stating: “Many institutions and organizations, including ministries, are currently carrying out efforts to combat climate change. These efforts cover a wide range of areas such as climate finance, carbon pricing, the protection of water resources and livestock, and the expansion of organic agriculture.  Each institution may pursue its own initiatives, yet all of these efforts must converge on a single goal. This requires a clearly defined roadmap. And this roadmap has to be traceable and measurable. This is why; coordination is essential to ensure that our entire country becomes resilient to the climate crisis.”

Emphasizing that climate change cannot be confined to the category of an environmental issue alone, Director Hasar added: “When we take migration into account, climate change emerges as a transboundary challenge and manifests itself as a financial, social, and even security issue. Climate is also a matter of our water resources and our future.”

Focusing on international trade and finance, the meeting centered on topics including international carbon pricing mechanisms, climate finance, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, renewable energy, the emissions trading system, climate policies, and the net-zero emissions target.

The event was attended by Ankara Chamber of Commerce President Gürsel Baran, Deputy Minister of Trade Mustafa Tuzcu, President of the Public Oversight, Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority Dr. Hasan Özçelik, Prof. Nevzat Saygılıoğlu, and numerous invited guests.
