European Environment Agency published the European Climate Risk Assessment report on 11 March 2024

The report addressed the potential impact of climate change on European countries through various policy strategies and recommendations.

The report addressed the potential impact of climate change on European countries through various policy strategies and recommendations. In this sense, the report presents important findings regarding the current climate risks facing in Europe. The agency's assessments focus on 36 major climate risks for Europe across five broad groups: ecosystems, food, health, infrastructure, economy and finance.

During the analysis of the report, contributions from European Environment Agency member countries Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Türkiye were benefited. In the report, Türkiye is among the Southern European Countries and important issues covering our country are:

  • The 6th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR6) stated that temperatures will increase 5oC by 2100. In the European Risk Assessment report, it is emphasized that Europe is the fastest warming continent in the world and that the temperature will reach 7oC by 2100.
  • Recent studies have shown that extreme precipitation due to climate change has increased up to 10 times in Greece, Bulgaria and Türkiye, and up to 50 times in Libya. Likewise, Storm Daniel, which occurred in September 2023 and caused devastating effects, life and economic losses in Bulgaria, Spain, Greece, Libya and Türkiye.
