The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change has released detailed answers to 14 frequently asked questions concerning Türkiye’s first Climate Law.
The draft legislation—comprising 20 articles, two provisional articles, and amendments to three separate laws—establishes a comprehensive statutory framework for combating climate change.
The Climate Law provides the legal foundation for developing climate-resilient cities in response to climate-induced disasters, promoting environmentally responsible production through incentives for renewable energy, and safeguarding biodiversity and green spaces.
It places the measures required to strengthen water and food security under statutory regulation.
The law also mandates the preparation of local and national action plans designed to minimize the impacts of the climate crisis on the economy, cities, and critical sectors, particularly agriculture and food.
To reduce disaster-related losses and damages, risk assessment, monitoring, information sharing, and early warning systems will be developed based on integrated disaster management principles.
Nature-friendly production processes will be placed under legal protection in order to reinforce the international competitiveness of key sectors.
