The Directorate of Climate Change organized a training program in Konya under the framework of the Capacity Building on Long-Term Climate Change Strategy in Türkiye Project.
Held in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the training aimed to promote the exchange of knowledge and experience on climate change adaptation and mitigation in the agricultural sector.
Bringing together sector stakeholders, the Climate Change and Agriculture Training provided a platform for discussing good practices, regional assessments and solution-oriented approaches, while also exploring innovative ideas to strengthen the resilience of the agricultural sector to climate change.
The program addressed a broad range of topics, including the dissemination of sustainable agricultural practices, water management, soil fertility and the reduction of carbon footprints, while highlighting the impacts of climate change on agriculture and underscoring the importance of sustainable water resource management and climate-friendly farming practices.
The training also covered the measures to be taken and strategies developed for the agricultural sector in line with Türkiye’s 2053 Net Zero Emissions Target.
Through capacity-building activities, which contribute to Türkiye’s long-term climate policies, the program aims to develop comprehensive solutions to support the agricultural sector in adapting to changing climate conditions and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Participants included UNDP Portfolio Manager Meral Mungan Arda, Head of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Policies Department at the Directorate of Climate Change Abdurrahim Durmuş, as well as representatives of governmental organizations and members of academia.
