Training programs organized by the Directorate of Climate Change to strengthen Türkiye’s climate change adaptation capacity were held in Denizli and Antalya. Delivered under the “Strengthening Climate Change Adaptation Action in Türkiye Project,” the programs aim to boost societal resilience by strengthening climate change adaptation at both private-sector and urban scales.
Organized in cooperation with UNDP, the trainings brought together representatives from governmental organizations, universities, and non-governmental organizations in Denizli and Antalya. The programs aim to strengthen local-level adaptation capacity by assessing sector-based risks and developing solution-oriented approaches, while also underlining the importance of locally developed actions and institutional cooperation in responding to the climate crisis.
The outputs from the sessions focusing on resilient cities and good practices, where sector-specific risks were assessed and recommended solutions were proposed, are set to inform local action plans. Under the theme “Climate Change and Disasters: Investing in the Future through Nature-Based Solutions,” the trainings also examined nature-aligned and sustainable approaches to reducing climate-induced disaster risks. Participants reviewed the role of nature-based strategies in disaster risk management and Türkiye’s practices in this field, and received up-to-date information on national planning processes aimed at reducing disaster risks.
The integration of nature-based solution models into flood and drought management plans was also discussed, alongside the role of nature in building fire-resilient ecosystems and in post-fire rehabilitation processes.
The programs further examined how agricultural insurance systems provide protection against climate-related risks, the importance of such systems for climate adaptation, and nature-based approaches to addressing flood and drought risks.
Ongoing trainings across Türkiye continue to bring together sector representatives, public institutions, and universities as a key step in strengthening the country’s response to climate change.
