The Turkish and Australian delegations met in Ankara as part of the COP31 process.
Türkiye continues its diplomatic outreach following its assumption of the COP Presidency and host country role. Within this framework, the Turkish and Australian delegations came together in Ankara for consultations aimed at positioning COP31 as a strong source of synergy for global climate diplomacy.
The meeting brought together Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Fatma Varank, Australian Deputy Secretary of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water Kushla Munro, Director of Climate Change Prof. Halil Hasar, and representatives from the relevant ministries and institutions of both countries.
Discussions focused on a series of thematic areas, including “Rebuilding Trust,” “Strengthening Climate Action,” “Accelerating Global Climate Action,” the “Just Transition Work Programme,” the “Global Stocktake,” and the “Global Goal on Adaptation and the Mitigation Work Programme.”
Throughout the two-day meeting, which continued behind closed doors, it was underscored that COP31 should be positioned not merely as an event, but as a mechanism capable of accelerating global implementation efforts.
