COP30 Commences in Brazil

The 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is commencing.

The 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is commencing. 

COP30 will take place in Belém, Brazil, starting on 10 November and will run for two weeks, opening with the Leaders’ Summit.

The conference will convene around a core agenda that includes protecting the Amazon and combating deforestation, efforts to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 °C, the submission of new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and progress on the climate finance pledges made at COP29.

Other prominent agenda items include the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, climate change adaptation, climate finance for developing countries, as well as renewable energy and low-carbon technologies. 

Following the Leaders’ Summit, where Türkiye will be represented by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, negotiation sessions will be attended by Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, Deputy Minister and Chief Climate Negotiator Fatma Varank, and Director of Climate Change Prof. Halil Hasar representing Türkiye.

At the Türkiye Pavilion in the Blue Zone, panel sessions and a range of events will bring together experts from different sectors for in-depth exchanges in their respective fields.

As an annual event, the Conference of the Parties provides a vital platform for global cooperation and innovative solutions in addressing the climate crisis.

Since 1995, COP meetings have brought countries from around the world together to advance sustainable climate action and to forge shared strategies.

The outcomes of the negotiations will be announced at the closing session on 22 November.
