As part of the Climate Envoys Movement implemented by the Directorate of Climate Change, the Climate Envoys Training Camp was held in Antalya.

Organized within the framework of the Climate Envoys Movement, the four-day camp aims to ensure the active participation of young people in Türkiye’s fight against climate change.
Through this youth-focused camp, the Directorate of Climate Change views the initiative as an important step toward raising awareness of climate change, fostering sustainable solutions, and enabling young people to take part in decision-making processes in this field.

Deputy Director of Climate Change Orhan Solak accompanied the participants throughout the camp, noting that young people already demonstrate a high level of awareness in the fight against climate change and emphasizing that it is critically important for future generations to grow up with this level of consciousness.

Underlining that climate change is no longer a problem of the future but a reality we are confronting today, Deputy Director Solak said, “Because our country is located in the Mediterranean Basin, it is significantly affected by climate change-driven disasters whose frequency and severity are increasing, yet unfortunately the heaviest burden of these impacts will be borne by young people and future generations.”

Recalling that we are being exposed to the adverse effects of climate change more intensely with each passing day, Deputy Director Solak added, “At a time like this, I would especially like to stress how important it is for you, our valued young people, to be involved in the process of tackling these challenges and for us to work together in a spirit of partnership.”

A panel titled “Climate Change and Türkiye” was held during the camp, at which current developments related to climate change were shared.

Participants were also briefed on the Climate Envoys Platform, while capacity-building trainings addressed the scientific foundations of climate change, adaptation policies, negotiations, carbon pricing, and green finance.

In addition, the camp program featured trainings, group work, and a range of activities designed to strengthen participants’ capacities in combating climate change.

Alongside Deputy Director Solak, the camp was attended by UNICEF Türkiye ADAP Specialist Chizuru Iwata, Head of Sustainability at SANKO Holding Enise Ademoğlu Matbay, representatives of the Directorate, and climate envoys selected by universities across all 81 provinces of Türkiye.
